A Repair shop owner and technician. He handles hundreds of problematic iPhones per month. He is experienced in identifying iPhone problems and troubleshooting in the most efficient way.

If you want to switch carriers on an iPhone 13 or get back into one after forgetting the passcode, the first step is figuring out which lock you are dealing with.

Well, I recently had to deal with this issue and found out there are some handy techniques to unlock iPhone 13 whenever you switch a carrier.

This guide covers both: how to check and remove a carrier lock, and how to erase and set up the iPhone again if you forgot the screen passcode.

The same general steps apply across the iPhone 13 lineup, including iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 13 Pro, and iPhone 13 Pro Max.

Let's get into it.

How to Unlock iPhone 13 Carrier?

How to Check If Your iPhone is Locked by a Carrier?

You can check whether the iPhone is carrier-locked in three ways. The fastest current check is the Settings method below.

  • Using Settings
  • Through the iPhone Settings menu, you can check the current carrier-lock status directly. Here’s how:

    1. Go to Settings, then tap General.
    2. Tap About and scroll down to Carrier Lock.
    3. If you see No SIM restrictions, the iPhone is unlocked.
    4. If you see another lock status, contact that carrier to request an official unlock.
  • Using SIM Card
  • I used two different carrier SIM cards to test this solution. Make sure you have that requirement covered first.

    1. Call from your current SIM and let it pass through.
    2. Next, turn off your iOS device, and remove the SIM card from it.
    3. Now, insert a new sim card(of a different carrier), and restart the iPhone.
    4. Again, make a call using the new SIM, and if it connects, the iPhone is unlocked. If not, then, unfortunately, the device is locked.
  • Contact the Carrier
  • This is the slower route, but it is still the official way to confirm eligibility.

If you cannot use another carrier on the iPhone, contact the current carrier and ask them to check the IMEI and unlock status. They will usually need the IMEI and account details before they confirm eligibility.

2 Most Reliable Methods to Unlock iPhone Carrier (Suitable for All iPhone Models)

You could be using one of the four carrier services mentioned below on your locked iPhone 13.

  • AT&T
  • Note down the iPhone’s IMEI number from the Settings menu, and open the AT&T unlock portal. There, enter the number to unlock the device or dial 06 on the carrier’s customer service to submit a manual request.

Method 2: Unlock iPhone Carrier With SIM Unlock Chip

SIM unlock chips are third-party workarounds that sit in the SIM tray and try to bypass a carrier restriction. They are easy to find online, but results can be inconsistent, iOS updates may break them, and carriers do not treat them as an official unlock.

Follow the steps below to unlock iPhone 13 mini/Pro/Max quickly using a SIM Unlock Chip:

  1. First, purchase a SIM Unlock Chip compatible with your iPhone.
  2. Next, insert the chip into the sim card tray, and place the sim card on top of it.
  3. Insert the Chip Into the Sim Card Tray
  4. Select edit ICCID before entering the new code(18-22 digit code on the back of the SIM card).
  5. The ICCIDof the SIM Card
  6. Lastly, restart the iPhone and activate it.

How to Unlock iPhone 13 When Forgot Screen Passcode?

It is common to forget a screen passcode, but Apple does not provide a way to keep the data and bypass the lock at the same time.

Apple's security design is the reason the phone cannot simply be opened again without verification.

What matters here is that you can unlock an iPhone 13 without the passcode only by erasing it and setting it up again. That process usually wipes the personal data stored on the device.

Check out the following four ways to know how to unlock iPhone 13 without a passcode:

Method 1: How to Unlock iPhone 13 Without Passcode and Computer?

From iOS15.2 or later, the 'iPhone Reset' option is available in case you forgot your screen passcode.

You just need to tap on that, and it will wipe off everything, including your passcode.

This technique can also be useful if you are selling off your iPhone and you want everything to be wiped out completely.

Requirements:

  • Your locked iPhone 13 needs to run on iOS 15.2 or later.
  • The Find My feature must be enabled prior to forgetting the passcode.
  • It is necessary to know your Apple ID password. And you’ve already logged in with your Apple ID.
  • The iPhone 13 should be connected to local Wi-Fi or mobile data.

Steps:

  1. You will be able to see the "iPhone Unavailable try again in 15 minutes" interface after entering the wrong passcode 7 times continually.
  2. iPhone Unavailable Try Again in 15 Minutess
  3. Tap Forgot Passcode?

Method 3: Unlock Disabled iPhone 13 via Find My (iCloud.com)

When used to find a lost or stolen device, Find My is quick and easy to use.

But Find My doesn't just help you locate devices. It also comes with an Erase function that can help when you lock your iPhone after forgetting the passcode or need to wipe a lost or stolen device.

Requirements:

  • You must know the device’s Apple ID and Password.
  • Find My should have been enabled on the iPhone.
  • Your iCloud account is logged in to the locked device.
  • The iPhone 13 must be linked to an internet connection(Wi-Fi or a cellular network).

Steps:

  1. Open iCloud.com on your browser and sign in with the same Apple ID and Password used on the locked iPhone 13.
  2. Sign in to iCloud
  3. Next, from the list of features, click on Find My.
  4. Find My Option in iCloud
  5. Now, click All Devices and select your locked iPhone 13.
  6. Choose Your Device in iCloud
  7. Click the Erase This Device and enter your Apple ID password to verify it. The iPhone erase process will begin and you will be notified upon its completion.
  8. Erase This Device in iCloud
  9. After the erase process completes, your iPhone 13 will restart. You then have the option to restore your iPhone 13 from a backup using iCloud or iTunes, if you have one available.

Method 4: How to Unlock iPhone 13 Without Passcode Via Finder, Apple Devices, or iTunes?

Apple's official computer-based restore method works through Finder on current Macs, Apple Devices on Windows, and iTunes on older systems.

The Restore function erases the iPhone and installs the latest supported iOS version for that device.

This also erases your local data and settings, but it lets you set up the phone again from a backup or as a new device.

If Find My is enabled on the iPhone, you will still need the Apple ID password after the restore to complete Activation Lock.

Also, as I was using an iPhone 13, iTunes failed to recognize my device automatically. For this reason, I had to put my iPhone into Recovery Mode myself.

Preparations:

To use this method, you need a computer, a compatible USB cable, and the right Apple app for that computer: Finder on macOS Catalina or later, Apple Devices or iTunes on Windows, and iTunes on older Macs.

Steps:

  1. First, turn off your iPhone 13, and then put the device in Recovery Mode by pressing and holding the side button. At the same time, connect the iPhone to the computer.
  2. Keep pressing the side button until the Recovery Mode screen is visible.
  3. iPhone Recovery Mode
  4. Now, open Finder, Apple Devices, or iTunes on your computer. Click Restore iPhone.
  5. Restore iPhone via iTunes
  6. After that, click Agree to the terms and conditions so the software download can begin.
  7. Agree to the Terms and Conditions on iTunes
  8. Once the iPhone software update is downloaded, click Restore to start the erase and install it on the iPhone 13.
  9. Note: If the download takes longer than about 15 minutes and the iPhone exits Recovery Mode, put it back into Recovery Mode and start the restore again.

  10. The computer will extract the downloaded iOS version, and the device will restart automatically when the restore finishes.
  11. Click OK to end.
Summary

Take some time to learn the simple methods I have mentioned in this blog. All of them work like a charm. Also, if you need to unlock iPhone 13 after forgetting the screen passcode, then I suggest giving Mobitrix LockAway a try, so you don't have to go through a lot of hassle.
