How to Unlock Your Apple ID in 2021 [SOLVED]
Have you ever forgotten the password to one of your accounts? And then when you tried to answer security questions or guess the password, you were locked out? If you have, then you will know what a headache it can be to unlock your account. The security questions. The verification codes. The emails. It’s the worst.
In particular, it can be ridiculously hard to access your Apple ID when it locks you out. At least, it was for me. So, today, I have compiled all solutions to help all people who are facing this problem. Follow along with this article to learn different ways of unlocking your Apple ID. Let’s get started.

Part 1: Unlocking Your Apple ID with Two-Factor Authentication
Method 1: Resetting Your Password for Apple ID
Two-factor authentication allows users to access their Apple accounts on other trustworthy devices like their Macs, iPhones, iPads, or Apple Watches.
The million-dollar question here is: Do you have two-factor authentication enabled? If you do, then you can follow the steps I have outlined below to unlock your Apple ID.
If not, don’t worry. Just skip this section and check the other ways I have mentioned to solve this problem easily.
You’re gonna need the following things to go ahead with this method:
- A trusted device (can be an iPhone, iPad, Mac, or Apple watch)
- A phone number
If you have these things, you can go ahead and do the following:
A. If You’re Using iPhone/iPod/iPad
Step 1 – Open Settings on your device
Step 2 – Tap on your account. It will be displayed by your username.
Step 3 – Go to Password & Security and then go to Change Password.
Step 4 – If you are logged into iCloud on your device and also have enabled the password, then you will be prompted to enter a new password.
Step 5 – From here on out, you can follow the instructions that appear on the screen to change your password and unlock your ID.
B. If You’re Using Mac
Step 1 – On your device, open Apple Menu. Then go to System Preferences.
Step 2 – If you are using the Mojave version of macOS, then go to iCloud and then to Password & Security.
Step 3 – If you are using an older version of macOS such as Sierra or High Sierra, then go to iCloud and then Account Details.
Step 4 – You might be prompted to enter the Apple ID password. If that happens, click on the Forgot Apple ID or Password.
Step 5 – If you are not prompted for a password, just click the Change Password option.
Method 2: Unlocking Your Apple ID Through iForget
If the above methods don’t work for you, don’t fret. You can just easily use the Apples iForget website to unlock your Apple ID.
- Will need a trusted device (iPad/iPhone/iPod/Mac/Apple Watch)
- May require you to have access to email
- May require you to enter your 14-digit recovery key. So, find it from wherever you saved it just in case you need it.
You can follow the steps I have mentioned below to unlock your Apple ID using iForget:
Step 1 – Go to the website iforgot.apple.com
Step 2 – It will ask you to enter your Apple ID. Insert your Apple ID. If you don’t remember it, it isn’t a problem. Just click on the link that says look it up and find it by giving your first name, last name, and email address.
Step 3 – In the next step, you will be asked to enter CAPTCHA code. Insert your code and then click on Continue.
Step 4 – Here, the next steps will depend on whether you have two-factor authentication enabled or not.
Step 5 – If you DO have two-factor authentication enabled, you will be sent a recovery code on your associated trusted device (e.g., iPhone/iPad etc.).
Step 6 – If you DON’T have two-factor authentication enabled, you can see the next section in this article for help.
If you don’t have access to another Apple device, you can follow the next method to unlock your Apple ID.
Method 3: Unlocking Your Apple ID Through a Verification Code
If you cannot access the iPhone connected to your Apple ID, you can use the following method that I have explained.
Step 1 – Click on the option that says Unable to access your iPhone.
Step 2 – Clicking on this option will send a 6-digit verification code to the phone number associated with your Apple ID. It doesn’t necessarily have to be your iPhone’s number.
Ste p 3 – In this method, you may be required to enter the 14-digit recovery code you were given when you enabled two-factor authentication. You can just enter this key and access your account.
Step 4 – Even if you don’t have this code, you can click on Did not get a verification code to receive a text or phone call with this code.
Part 2: Unlocking Your Apple ID if You Don’t Have Two-Factor Authentication Enabled
If you didn’t enable two-factor authentication when you set up your Apple ID, then you won’t be able to use the methods mentioned above. But you don’t need to worry even for a second. I’ve got you covered.
In the section below, I have compiled and explained all the ways you can use to unlock your Apple ID if you don’t have two-factor authentication enabled on your phone. Just follow along to unlock your Apple ID in a few simple steps.
Method 1: Unlocking Your Apple ID Through iForget
You can still use iForget to unlock and access your Apple ID even if you don’t have two-factor authentication enabled.
You will require the following:
- Your password for Apple ID
- Alternatively, you need to answer security questions
Step 1 – Follow steps 1 through 4 of Unlocking your Apple ID through iForget method in the above section.
Step 2 – After this, you will be asked to enter your password. If you don’t remember the password, you can reset it using your email
Step 3 – If you don’t know the password, you can answer security questions instead. Here, you can try to correctly answer the security question to unlock your Apple ID.
Method 2: Unlocking Your Apple ID Through Verification Code
If you have the two-factor authentication not enabled on your iPhone, then you won’t have the 14-digit recovery code either. However, you don’t need to worry. You can use this method to unlock your Apple ID.
The only major requirement for this method is:
- You need your access to the phone number associated with your Apple ID.
Step 1 – Go to iforgot.apple.com website.
Step 2 – Now select the option that says Unable to access your iPhone.
Step 3 – Here, Apple will send a 6-digit verification code to the phone number associated with your Apple ID.
Step 4 – In this method, the website may prompt you to enter a 14-digit recovery code. Since you don’t have two-factor authentication, so you will not have this code. You can just click on Did not get a verification code to receive a text or phone call with this code.
Step 5 – You should be able to unlock your Apple ID through these alternative options.
Part 3: Unlocking Your Apple ID Using LockAway
The methods mentioned above are useful and effective. But they won’t work for all of you. It can be a plethora of reasons.
You might be stuck at a step. You might not have the necessary information. You might not understand the methods at all.
