4 Ways to Do If You Forget iCloud ID and Password
Have you ever forgotten an Apple password? You have a way better memory than me if you haven’t. Just last week, I was about to log in to iCloud. But when it asked for Apple ID and password, I was stumped. Turns out, I had forgotten my password.
I searched the internet to figure out what I could do. I was able to open my iCloud account at the end after a lot of trouble. I don’t want anyone else to spend hours trying to figure the same thing out. So, in the following article, I will explain all the ways I found useful.
- Part 1: How to Find Forgotten Apple ID
- Part 2: Using Two Factor Authentication to Reset Forgotten Password for iCloud
- Part 3: Using Two-Step Verification to Reset iCloud Password
- Part 4: Use LockAway to Reset iCloud Password
Part 1: How to Find Forgotten Apple ID
Only three things can happen that can make it impossible to log in to your iCloud account. You either forget your Apple ID or password or both.
If you have forgotten your Apple ID email, you don’t need to worry. There are a couple of ways you can easily find it right with your iPhone.
Method 1: Try Settings
If you don’t remember your Apple ID, there’s a painless way you can find it on your iPhone. For this, try the following steps:
Step 1 – Go to Setting on your iPhone.
Step 2 – Now, you will see your name at the top of the screen. Tap it to open the iCloud menu.
Step 3 – On the next screen, you will see the email ID that is connected to your Apple account.
Note: If your iPhone has a password enabled, you will be asked to enter it in order to access the account details. If you don’t use a password on your phone, you will directly see the details.
Viola, you now have the email ID linked to your Apple account. But then again, your account needs to be logged into your phone for this trick to work.
Method 2: Check your Emails
A crude method of trying to find the email associated with your Apple ID is to search through your old emails. The chances are that you will have received emails on this connected account from Apple. Maybe, you’ll find one regarding a purchase or maybe just a random advertisement one.
The point is, if you can track down an email like this, you’ll immediately know which account was connected to your Apple ID.
This is a hit-and-trial method and might not always work. But my friend, if nothing else works, it’s not a bad idea to give it a try.
Part 2: Using Two Factor Authentication to Reset Forgotten Password for iCloud
In case you decided to set up two-factor authentication on your iPhone, you’re in for a treat. Turns out, having two-factor authentication set up on your phone makes it much easier to reset your iCloud password.
So if you indeed do have the feature enabled, check out the following methods to successfully reset your password for iCloud.
Method 1: Use Settings to Reset Your iCloud Password
You can use the settings on your iPhone to reset your iCloud password, in case you forget it.
Requirements: Major requirements for this method include:
- An Apple device you trust (can be an iPhone, iPad, Watch, etc.)
- You know the password for your device.
If you think you fulfill the above-mentioned pre-requisites for this method, move on ahead and follow the instructions I have mentioned below:
Step 1 – On your device, go to Settings.
Step 2 – Now tap on your name at the top of your screen.
Step 3 – Tap on Password & Security.
Step 4 – From within the options, select Change Password.
Step 5 – You will be prompted to enter your password. Enter it.
Step 6 – Now you can enter the password for your iCloud account.
And that’s it. You just changed your iCloud password.
Method 2: Use iForget to Reset Your iCloud Password
You can also use another resource provided by Apple to change your iCloud password. You may or may not have heard of iForget. It’s an Apple website set up entirely for cases where you forget login details related to Apple products.

Step 4 – On the notification your phone received, you’ll see the option Allow. Tap it to go ahead.
Step 5 – Now, just follow the steps that appear on the screen. You might be prompted to enter the passcode of your device during this process. Next, you can easily enter your new password.
This way, you can easily change your iCloud password using an official resource provided by Apple itself.
Part 3: Using Two-Step Verification to Reset iCloud Password
If you have two-step verification set up on your device, you can use it to reset your iCloud password. Just keep in mind that two-step verification is different than two-factor authentication.
Requirements: you will need the following to use this method:
- A trusted Apple device. Can be an iPod, iPhone, or any other Apple device that you trust.
- Your Recovery Key. You will have received this when setting up the two-step verification on your device.
If you fulfill the above requirements, you can follow the steps below to reset your password for iCloud:
Step 1 – On a browser, go to iforgot.apple.com.
Step 2 – Now enter your Recovery Key. If you forgot your recovery key, you will find an option on the screen to retrieve it again. You can follow the link to get it again.
Step 3 – Choose a trusted Apple device and get the verification code sent to it.
Step 4 – Enter the verification code on the website.
Step 5 – Now, you can just enter in the new password and then click on Reset Password.
This should effectively reset your password, and you will be good to use iCloud again.
